The Teachers Service Commission has advertised massive jobs for primary and secondary school teachers ahead of the start of the new academic year in January 2025.

In a public notice in MyGov on Tuesday, the commission will hire an additional 8,707 teachers on permanent and pensionable terms as part of the efforts to bridge the deficit of tutors.

TSC seeks to hire the bulk of the teachers for public primary schools, which are experiencing a huge shortage.

Of the total teachers to be recruited, a total of 5,862 tutors will be deployed to primary schools across the country while 2,824 will be sent to senior secondary schools.

The Junior Secondary Schools(JSS) have been allocated only 21 teachers who will be hired on permanent and pensionable terms.

TSC says that those seeking to to be hired for primary schools must possess at least a P1 Certificate while those bidding for JSS and secondary schools must have a minimum of a diploma in education.

In all cases, teachers must be Kenyans and registered to practice by the TSC.

TSC says that interested candidates must submit their applications online through the commissions' official website not later than January 13.

The application portal will be open between December 31 and January 13, 2025.

"Manual applications will not be considered,'' TSC said in the advertisement on Tuesday.

The commission noted that applicants who have never been employed by TSC will be given preference during the recruitment.

"The recruitment exercise is free of charge. The Teachers Service Commission forewarns applicants against fraudsters who might extort money from unsuspecting persons purporting to assist in recruitment,'' TSC said.

The fresh recruitment comes weeks after TSC's mass recruitment of 20,000 teacher interns for JSS. The intern teachers will report in January when schools reopen.

In October, TSC also completed the recruitment of at least 46,000 Junior Secondary School teachers on permanent terms.

The teachers had been serving as interns for over a year, sparking public uproar and a strike by the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Teachers(Kuppet).

The fresh recruitment of the 8,707 teachers for primary and post-primary institutions could be the last one to be overseen by TSC boss Nancy Macharia.

She has announced her retirement from the commission after serving for 10 years.
