Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya on Monday held a meeting with sports ministers from Uganda and Tanzania in Nairobi ahead of the upcoming African Nations Championship (CHAN).
The pamoja CHAN tournament will be held co-hosted by the three countries next month.
According to Mvurya, the ministerial meeting was aimed at ensuring that all the three nations are on track to host the prestigious competition.
“We reviewed our collective preparedness in hosting the tournament,” he said.
Apart from logistics and infrastructure, the ministers also reviewed organisational aspects necessary to deliver a successful tourney.
During the gathering, the leaders expressed their unwavering confidence in their collective ability to successfully host it.
Mvurya also emphasised the importance of collaboration between the nations, highlighting their shared commitment to delivering a world-class experience for both players and fans.
Also present during the meeting were principal secretary Peter Tum, his Tanzanian counterpart Gerson Msigaa, Uganda’s National Sports Council CEO and officials from the Technical Advisory Committee from the three countries.
The competition featuring players playing in their domestic leagues will be played from February 1 to 28.
The draw will be conducted at Kenyatta International Conventional Centre (KICC) next week January 15.
Nyayo Stadium and Moi Sports Centre Kasarani which have been under renovation for the purpose are nearing completion.
Other grounds that will also be used by teams for training are Police Sacco Stadium and Ulinzi Sports Complex.
In Tanzania, the 60,000-capacity Benjamin Mkapa Stadium and the 15,000-capacity Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar are the main venues reserved for the tournament.
Uganda, on the other hand, has the 45,000-seat Nelson Mandela Stadium and the 30,000-seat Nakivubo Stadium.
A delegation from CAF was in the country last month for an inspection exercise of the key facilities to be used.
Among these facilities they are assessing are the major hotels within Nairobi which are set to accommodate visiting teams and officials.
They also inspected the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
