ODM leadership in Nairobi has condemned the alleged attack on Kitisuru MCA Alvin Olando and called for justice following Monday’s incident.
The leadership led by ward representatives and youth officials termed the alleged attack as a heinous and cowardly act noting that it undermines democracy and the rule of law.
Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi condemned the incident, describing it as barbaric and a violation of democratic principles.
Addressing a press conference at a hotel in Nairobi, youth
leader Evans Ochieng emphasised that violence against elected leaders is a
dangerous trend that threatens governance and unity.
"As youth, we reject and denounce all forms of
political violence. Such cowardly actions are unacceptable and
have no place in a progressive society like ours," Ochieng stated.
He urged authorities to ensure the perpetrators of the crime face justice.
The attack, which occurred in Nairobi’s Central Business District, left the MCA with injuries to his head, hand, and mouth.
He was treated and discharged from a city hospital.
Members of the County Assembly also expressed outrage over the alleged attack on the Ward Rep.
"We will not be silenced or intimidated. We will continue to stand firm," Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai remarked.
Kariobangi MCA Joel Munuve added that such acts of violence are not isolated, recounting his own experience of being attacked by unknown people during the opening of a city hospital last year.
The ODM youth leadership urged swift and decisive action, stating that such acts of impunity cannot be tolerated.
"We call upon law enforcement agencies to investigate and ensure that those responsible face the full force of the law. This attack is not just on Alvin Olando but on the principles of democracy and good governance," Ochieng emphasised.
The youth leaders also called for political tolerance and an end to violence, stressing the importance of dialogue and respect for divergent views in fostering unity and progress.
