MPs approve SRC nominees

The nominees were vetted by the Departmental Committee on Labor on November 22, 2024.

The National Assembly has approved Sammy Chepkwony as the new chairperson of the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).

Chepkwony was cleared for the position during a special sitting Thursday morning.

The MPs also approved for appointment of six other members including Martin Kizito Ong’onyi nominated by the Defence Council, Mohamed Aden, nominated by the Senate on behalf of County Governments and Jane Njage to represent (TSC).

Others are Gilda Odera (Federation of Kenya Employers), Geoffrey Omondi ( COTU) and Leonid Ashiundu to represent the Association of Professional Societies of East Africa (APSEA).

Chepkwony was nominated by President William Ruto on November 12, 2024.

He will now succeed Lyn Mengich whose six-year tenure ended in September 2024.

Chepkwony, a human resource expert, was vetted by the Departmental Committee on Labor on November 22, 2024, alongside six other individuals nominated as members of the commission.

The report on the vetting of the nominees was tabled on the floor of the House on November 26.

With a background in human resources, his expertise could be crucial in addressing these challenges, as he brings expertise in workforce management and organizational effectiveness.

Prior to his nomination, Chepkwony was the Managing Director and chief executive officer at People Centric Management Limited.

His career started at Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PWC) as a senior consultant but he has held various other senior positions.

These include chairperson at Tata Chemicals Magadi Provident Fund, HR Director at Kenya Airways, James Finlay Kenya, HR Manager at Nairobi Bottlers Ltd and Regional Human Resource Director at Aga Khan University.

Chepkwony holds a Master of Business Administration and Bachelor of Commerce (Business Administration) degree from the University of Nairobi.

He is a Fellow of the Institute of Human Resources Management, a member of the Institute of Directors-Kenya, a Certified Human Resource Professional (CHRP) Kenya and has completed a Trustee Development Program.
