Sarah Wairimu is expected in court today to face fresh murder charges of her late husband Tob Cohen.

Wairimu was re-arrested yesterday after DPP Renson Igonga said they now have overwhelming evidence showing that Wairimu murdered Cohen on the night of July 19 and 20, 2019,  at Lower Kabete Area, within Nairobi County.

"Wairimu's impending arraignment following her arrest on January 23, comes after we received new material in relation to Cohen's death from the DCI," said the DPP in a statement shared on their X platform.

The statement states that with the new information, the DPP made an application for the termination of an inquest into the murder which was granted.

"Upon independent and thorough review of the new material, the DPP is satisfied that Wairimu was involved in the death of Tob Cohen," adds their statement.

The former DPP Noordin Haji in 2022 dropped the murder charge and recommended the matter be registered as an inquest.

Haji attributed the decision to several inconsistencies by the investigators.

He said opening a public inquest will allow members of the public to provide any useful information on Cohen's murder to the authorities, as is required by the Law.

"The DPP decided that a public inquest be held with the aim of uncovering the persons behind the gruesome murder of the late Tob Cohen. The public inquest provides a platform for any person with information that may be useful to unravel the murder to avail that information through a judicial process," ODPP said
