A 54-year-old man was found murdered and his body burnt in a village in Ganze, Kilifi County.
Police said the incident happened in
Mgamboni village following a long land dispute.
Police said they found the body of
Katana Mula burnt beyond recognition on Sunday, February 9 night.
It was established that the deceased
had attended a neighbourhood funeral and later, after the burial, a group of
people trailed him to his house, which is about 200 meters away.
According to police, the assailants
first hit him with a blunt object on the head demobilizing him.
They then went on to chop his left hand
and both legs and later burnt the body in the house.
A team of detectives visited the scene
and announced a murder probe had been opened.
The body was moved to Kilifi County
Referral Hospital awaiting autopsy.
No arrest has been made but police have
promised justice in the matter.
Police say statistics show a slight
rise in murder incidents in the area over land disputes.
Some victims are branded witches before
being murdered in the trend, which police said they are handling.
Multi-agencies have launched a campaign
to address the menace, officials said.
Elsewhere in Silibwet, Bomet County, a
man was slashed to death in a fight.
Police said a second victim was admitted
to the hospital with serious hand injuries.
The two were attacked in their
homestead by an assailant who was armed with a panga, witnesses and police
said.
According to police, Benard Kiprotich,
36 succumbed to his injuries after the attack.
The other victim was admitted to the
Tenwek AGC Hospital with serious injuries.
The motive of the attack is yet to be
revealed.
The body of the victim was moved to a
mortuary in the area pending autopsy and other investigations.
Police said they were looking for the
assailant who escaped the scene soon after.
