A gang shot and injured two pedestrians as they escaped from a robbery scene in Wamba Town, Samburu County.
Police and witnesses said a gang of eight had raided a
shop and held a couple hostage.
Four of the gunmen had rifles at the time of the attack
on February 12 at about 7 pm, police and witnesses said while the rest had
crude weapons.
They then beat up the couple while demanding cash and
valuables.
They robbed the couple of Sh300,000, assorted airtime
scratch cards and other goods.
As they stormed out of the shop, a curious crowd
gathered there and started to shout at them.
It was then that one of the gunmen opened fire
indiscriminately injuring two men in the legs.
The two were rushed to Wamba Sub-County Hospital for
treatment.
One of the victims was transferred to Maralal County
Referral Hospital in critical condition.
Police visited the scene and recovered six spent
cartridges.
A witness and police said the gang escaped on foot after
a policeman in a civilian shot into the air to scare them.
Efforts to trace and arrest the suspected criminals are
ongoing, police said.
The area has been experiencing an increase in armed
attacks in the past weeks amid the mobilization of more personnel for operations.
Police say such attacks are staged by escaping and angry
bandits but efforts to get them are ongoing.
Meanwhile, a Turkish national was injured in a robbery
in his house in Embakasi area, Nairobi.
The man said he was robbed of 2,000 Euros, a passport
and a mobile phone by two men who trailed him to his house on Wednesday night.
Neighbours heard a commotion in his room, and upon checking, they found the victim tied with ropes on both legs, hands and a scarf tied around his neck.
Police said the victim was injured on the face, chest,
and both legs.
The victim was escorted to Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital,
where he is undergoing treatment in fair condition.
Police said a hunt for the attackers is ongoing.
