Parliament releases vetting schedule for new PS nominees

The notice states that the nominees will be vetted by relevant Departmental committees.

Parliament has announced the vetting schedule for the newly nominated Principal Secretaries (PSs) picked by President William Ruto.

The approval hearings will take place on Friday, April 4, and Monday, April 7, according to a notice issued by National Assembly Clerk Samwel Njoroge.

The notice states that the nominees will be vetted by relevant Departmental committees.

“It is notified to the general public that pursuant to Article 118(1)(b) of the Constitution and section 6(4) of the Public Appointments (Parliamentary Approval) Act (Cap. 7F), the respective committees of the House shall conduct approval hearings (Vetting) of the nominees on the dates, times and at the venues indicated in the schedule below,” the notice reads.

Among those scheduled for vetting is Ahmed Ibrahim, nominated as PS for the State Department for National Government Coordination in the office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary.

He will appear before the Internal Security Committee.

Stephen Isaboke (State Department for Broadcasting and Telecommunication) will be vetted by the Communication Committee, while Abdulrazak Shaukat (Science, Research, and Innovation) will appear before the Education Committee.

Cyrell Odede (Public Investments) and Boniface Makokha (Economic Planning) will appear before the Finance and National Planning Committee.

Other nominees scheduled for vetting include Ouma Oluga (Medical Services), Jane Imbunya (Public Services), Michael Lenasalon (Devolution), Caren Achieng (Children Welfare), Fikirini Jacobs (Youth Affairs), Regina Akoth (Trade) and Aden Millah (Shipping).

On April 7, Caroline Karugu (EAC Affairs) will face the Defence Committee as Judith Pareno (Justice and Human Rights) appears before the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee.

Njoroge said the nominees are required to present their original identification documents, academic and professional certificates, and other necessary testimonials during vetting.

They must also obtain letters or certificates of compliance from the following institutions: EACC, KRA, Higher Education Loans Board, Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Office of the Registrar of Political Parties and Credit Reference Bureau.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula referred Wednesday the names, including their curriculum vita, to the relevant departmental committees for consideration and reporting to the House.
