CRIME SCENE

A mission by a group of boys to swim in a pool of water at a quarry turned tragic when one of them drowned in the Misesi area, Kisii County.

Police said the 12-year-old boy was with three others and had, on April 7, gone to the quarry with a pool of water for swimming sessions when the incident happened.

The boy was a grade five pupil at Kiabusura Primary School.

The other boys raised an alarm, alerting locals who rushed there and retrieved the body.

The body was moved to the mortuary.

Police said three other drowning incidents were reported.

In Makindu, Makueni County, a juvenile aged 10 drowned as he swam in a pool of water.

Police said the boy was swimming in the Athi dam within Windiu village when he drowned on April 7. Police officers visited the scene and found the body floating on the water.

Personnel from the Red Cross and police officers managed to retrieve the body before taking it to the mortuary pending autopsy.

Another incident happened in the Athi River area, Machakos County, where a Chinese national drowned as he tried to cross a swollen river.

Police said the incident happened on April 6 and involved a foreigner aged 21.

He tried to cross a flooded Athi River from a quarry he had been working on when he drowned.

Witnesses said he was on foot from Katani to Kinanie, where he resides when drowned.

The body was swept downstream, and efforts to trace him are ongoing, police said.

In Oruba, Migori County, a four-year-old girl was found dead in the River Migori after suspected drowning.

The girl is said to have tried to cross the river alone when she was swept away by the raging waters.

Her body was retrieved and moved to the Migori County mortuary pending autopsy.

Police have warned most rivers are swollen due to heavy rains being experienced in separate parts of the country.

There are fears that many people have been swept by the waters, and the bodies are yet to be found.

Another man died by drowning in a suicide mission in his compound in the Makutano area, Kirinyaga County.

Police said in Makutano area, a man drowned in a family borehole in a suicide mission.

Police said they were yet to retrieve the body by Tuesday because it had not floated.

Experts were called from the local county government to help in retrieving the body of Peter Mbugua.

The motive of the incident is yet to be known.
