The global landscape of digital infrastructure shows a stark concentration of computing power, with the United States establishing an overwhelming lead in hosting the world's data ecosystems.

According to Statista, the United States commands the global landscape with 5,427 data centres as of May 2026. This dominant figure positions the US far ahead of its nearest global counterparts, reflecting its massive role in housing secure facilities that contain computer systems and digital infrastructure used to store, process, and manage data.

In comparison, European and Asian nations trail significantly, though they maintain substantial networks.

Germany holds the second position globally with 529 data centres, narrowly outpacing the United Kingdom, which follows closely with 523 facilities.

China secures the fourth spot on the global leaderboard, operating 449 data centres.

Further down the ranking, Canada holds 337 facilities, maintaining a slight edge over France, which operates 322 data centres. Australia remains firmly in the global top tier with 314 facilities, followed by the Netherlands with 298.

Rounding out the top ten nations are Russia, which houses 251 data centres, and Japan, with a total of 222 facilities.
