Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has reiterated the government’s commitment that key state projects and programmes worth billions of shillings geared at stimulating the nation’s economy will be completed as scheduled across the country for the benefit of all Kenyans.
He spoke on the third day of the President William Ruto-led development tour of the Western region.
The second in command also assured that the broad-based government is only focused on service delivery and bettering the lives of citizens.
The President led the leaders in commissioning the extension of a dyke for the River Nzoia flood control project in Budalangi, Busia county, affirming his administration’s agenda of ensuring equitable distribution of national resources.
The dyke will help in preventing nearby Lake Victoria’s backflow, curbing flooding, and enabling residents to farm and engage in productive activities without fear of displacement.
It will also safeguard access to key installations such as Musoma Primary and Musoma Secondary School, Mau Mau Trading Centre, and Musoma Shopping Centre, among others.
“We have united with all leaders to move our country forward. Our interest is to serve our people, deliver the development agenda, and improve the lives of all Kenyans. We are not interested in those perpetrating tribal politics, those keen to divide the country, those who are incompetent,” President Ruto said.
Kindiki said the focus is on improving the vital sectors of the economy that will have a direct impact on millions of Kenyans depending on it.
“The President is improving every sector in the country that is beneficial and profitable to wananchi; in agriculture, fishing, sugarcane, and other sectors set to improve the lives of all Kenyans. The President is busy working to ensure the country is self-sufficient and that every citizen is a beneficiary,” Kindiki added.
The President also launched the new Luanda Modern Market in Vihiga county, whose construction has begun in earnest.
The government has set aside Sh366 million for its construction and will serve at least 2000 traders on market days.
It will be completed in under 18 months and will house a market section, administration, ablution, ICT hub, food court, crèche, cold room.
It will be available for use by fresh farm produce, cereal, fish, ceramics traders, and also others, including clothes, shoes, and general household sellers.
“We are now on a good economic standing after two years of battling hard to stabilize it because of high interest rates, inflation and other fiscal challenges. We are now set to roll out key projects in every part of the country; roads, electricity expansion, construction of modern markets. That is why we are here in Vihiga county because we do not want to lag behind in development,” the President said in Luanda.
This market is one of the 400 the government is constructing under the Kenya Kwanza manifesto.
The Deputy President said the government is stimulating agriculture, livestock, fishing, mining, and all sectors, including boosting the economy, to ensure youths are employed.
“This is a development-oriented government. It is a government that is serving all Kenyans. It is an all-encompassing government-only focused service delivery. For those keen on dividing Kenyans, we are telling them we are not interested in tribal and divisive engagements,” said the DP.
The President also broke the ground for the construction of a tuition block at St Anne’s Bunyala Girls, Busia county, and laid the foundation stone for Khwisero Mother and Child Level 4 Hospital in Kakamega County.
