Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has faulted Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga over remarks he made towards his Murang’a counterpart Irungu Kang’ata on Monday.

According to Kioni, Kahiga's remarks were uncalled for and unacceptable adding that such kind of politics has no place in the Mt Kenya region.

Kioni said the region will not sit and watch as good leaders get sacrificed at the expense of blind loyalty.

“The attacks on Irungu Kangata by Governor Mutahi Kahiga in Laikipia today were not only uncalled for but absolutely unacceptable. This has no place in our society, and we will not stand by as good leaders in Mt. Kenya are sacrificed at the altar of sycophancy and blind loyalty. We made that mistake in 2022, never again! Mark my words,” Kioni said on X.

Kahiga in his remarks asked Governor Kang’ata to declare which side of the political divide he is aligned with.

He also warned that he would not be re-elected if does not re-align with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, urging him to listen to what the people are saying.

“We would like to tell Kang’ata to listen to the ground since we will follow the direction in which the Mt Kenya Kingpin will declare,” Kahiga said.

He spoke during the funeral of Laikipia Senator John Kinyua’s father William Nderitu in Kiamariga.

Kang’ata was present during the burial service.

Kahiga maintained that the Mt Kenya region will remain solidly united under Gachagua adding that they will religiously follow the direction he would give.

‘’We will follow the direction given by this guy,’’ he said in reference to Gachagua

But Kang’ata in his remarks insisted that he is focused on delivering his campaign promises to the people of Murang’a as opposed to politicking.

‘’When President Ruto and Gachagua came to Murang’a, they told me two things; one was to focus on delivering services to Murang’a residents and two was to offer solutions to the challenges facing Murang’a citizens…and that remains as my stand’’ Kang’ata said.

The remarks by the leaders come even as realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections begin to take shape.
