In Summary
Kenya Railways has warned the public to be vigilant and avoid getting scammed through fake job adverts.
KR in a public notice on Tuesday flagged fraudulent job advertisements appearing on social media and other online platforms.
"Kenya Railways wishes to notify the public of fraudulent job advertisements currently circulating on various online platforms, some of which are requesting for payment for applications," KR Managing Director said.
"We urge the public to be vigilant and note that Kenya Railways does not charge for applications or recruitment," KR said.
KR has further said all official job vacancies are advertised on the corporation's official website www.krc.co.ke or through MYGOV newspapers and official social media platforms.
KR has urged applicants to always contact the corporation to verify job advertisements either through the official social media channels or through the contact centre nnumber 0709 907 000 or the alternative 0709 907 555.
"Official communication from Kenya Railways will always bear the corporation's official logo and contacts."
The issue of fake job adverts is not new to Kenyans as several companies and state ministries have in the recent past post flagged similar ads.
For instance, in July 2024, the Teachers Service Commission flagged as fake a letter purporting to invite applications for the hiring of primary and Junior Secondary intern teachers.
The letter indicated that the teacher employer was looking to hire 20,000 intern teachers - 18,000 for Junior secondary schools and 2,000 for Primary schools to facilitate the implementation of the competency-based curriculum.
The Ministry of Health also issued an advisory on fake reports that were making rounds on social media about an advertisement for job opportunities.
The poster claimed there are 11,600 data entry clerk jobs at the Social Health Insurance Fund job opportunities.
