Omar leads UDA delegation to China to bolster party-to-party ties

The delegation departs Nairobi on Saturday and is expected to arrive on Sunday.

The ruling United Democratic Alliance has announced the start of a seven-day high-level delegation visit to China led by UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar.

In a statement on Saturday, the party said the trip is being conducted at the invitation of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and aims to bolster political cooperation and party-building strategies between the two parties.

The delegation departs Nairobi on Saturday and is expected to arrive at the Beijing Daxing International Airport on Sunday, April 13, 2025.

The statement said engagements will begin with meetings involving top CPC leadership and other institutions tied to the party’s policymaking and development agenda.

UDA emphasised that the visit is aimed at strengthening Kenya-China bilateral relations through political collaboration and development partnerships.

"The visit aims at enhancing UDA and CPC, party-to-party collaboration, and in return strengthen Kenya's bilateral relations with China in all spheres. China is certainly a valued partner in our development," UDA said.

According to the itinerary, the delegation will first meet with leaders from the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), followed by talks with the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC (IDCPC).

A specific engagement with the leadership of the African Bureau of the IDCPC has also been scheduled.

"On Wednesday, April 16, 2025, the delegation will depart Beijing for Fujian Province which Chinese President H.E Xi Xinping was Governor," the statement adds.

In Fujian Province, it dds, the team will meet with leadership of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee and make several visits, including a visit to the CPC party school, grassroots party building, rural revitalisation centre, the museum, and Fujian-Kenya cooperation, among other offices of interest in the province.

"Senator Omar and his team will learn about party building conducted by the Party School of the CPC Central Committee. The team will also have the privilege to visit the famous Great Wall of China, among other historic sites," the party said.

The delegation’s visit to China will concludes on April 19, after which the team is expected to brief the party and government on key takeaways and opportunities for cooperation.

Details obtained previously by the Star had indicated that Ruto would be the one travelling to China as part of his efforts to enhance ties with China amid weakening rapport with the US.
