MWANGI: Mr President, I don’t think you get it, this is why I'm mad

We don't need an X space for action on the proposals we have directed to you to be addressed.

In Summary

  • Isn’t it time we pause, allow and listen to the Auditor General? Which committee in parliament is this that is asleep on the job? This is why I am mad.
  • We need to be unshackled from this tight belt of corruption, poor leadership and mismanagement of our resources as a country.
Hundreds of Kenyans protest against the Finance Bill, 2024 in Nairobi CBD on June 18, 2024.

Mr President, your use of power will continue to be questioned if you don’t act. The mere statements without a plan of action are just seen as public relations to calm down Kenyans. Well I am not backing down, it's now or never.

In remembering those we have lost, those who have been shot by police, may we continue to honour them, to remember their names. It was very painful for me to sit through your two-hour interview with the media, from no form of remorse to you asking if the 12-year-old Rongai boy shot by the police was still alive.

As you distanced yourself from the police service, their recklessness should be called out. It was clear from the interview you have seen the “demands” by Kenyans from all walks of life and ages. Have you seen the unity that Kenyans continue to have even outside our borders? Do you pause and think about all this? Do you get how you are so disjointed from mwananchi?

Mr President, we do not need an X space for action on the proposals we have directed to you to be addressed. As a people, we have been angry. The trigger that did this for us is the Finance Bill, 2024, which until now we the public are not aware of what is happening as parliament is still in recess.

Democracy and pride have never gone hand in hand. It's shameful that no one, even the advisers around you, keeps you in line. Even the Bible, the word of God that you clearly show us you love, says “Humble yourself before the Lord and He will lift you up.”

In the previous years and more so in your administration, we have continued to see disrespect of court order and the Judiciary as a whole. It continues to be worrying that we owe creditors such as the World Bank, IMF and others over Sh10 trillion and counting.

Isn’t it time we pause, allow and listen to the Auditor General? Which committee in parliament is this that is asleep on the job? This is why I am mad. Every now and then reports come from the Auditor General's office but never have we heard of any arrest or summoning of any suspects linked to these scandals and loss of resources. This is not how to run a country, Mr President.

It is unfortunate that it is widespread demonstrations and loss of life and businesses that made you listen. We need to be unshackled from this tight belt of corruption, poor leadership and mismanagement of our resources as a country. Mr President, return on investment on your trips is something that I would like to question. I understand that “goodies” could take time, but it is painful the number of trips done so far vis a vis the fruits. Shouldn’t every trip be analysed in this form?

Mr President, your use of power will continue to be questioned if you don’t act. The mere statements without a plan of action are just seen as public relations to calm down Kenyans. Well I am not backing down, it's now or never. It beggars belief how State House and the DP's residence would need to revamp its furniture, cars and curtains every year. How is this living within your means? I am calling for accountability, transparency and openness.

Mr President, act, act on the wage bill; remove, propose to remove any illegal, unconstitutional offices, state departments and ministries that are not relevant. There is a lot of duplication of roles by the county and national government. Allocate more money for development and scrap off allowances for MPs. Life is hard for the hustler who continues to pay for this. Your appointments are guided by nepotism, how is this driving a united, one Kenya?

I, a young Kenyan, tribeless, one of the many youths who remain unemployed, do not feel that you are deliberate, you are not intentional, you are not willing.

I want to see a Kenya where information and trust are held by citizens, not Kenyans asking for “receipts” from your US trip; they should be readily available on a public site. It is worrying that even when the right to information is enshrined in the 2010 constitution, it remains hard for Kenyans to access it to hold you to account. You see why we don’t trust you?

I do not trust this government, including you, Mr President. How many multi-sectoral, stakeholder, commission of inquiries, taskforce, committees, and dialogues have been set up in the years you have been in politics? I am done talking.
