Trouble is brewing at the Nairobi county assembly as UDA MCAs call for the ouster of their leadership.
A section of the legislators on Thursday called the party's top leadership to change their leaders at the assembly.
At least 35 MCAs from the President William Ruto-led party have appended their signatures in support of the ouster of Minority leader Antony Kiragu and Minority Whip Mark Mugambi.
According to the UDA lawmakers, the two had failed to offer direction and leadership to party members on critical legislative matters.
Speaking from UDA party headquarters, the MCAs led by Kahawa West MCA Clement Kamaru said the time was ripe for the change.
"We have been patient with both the Leader of Minority and Minority Chief Whip for far too long, but now we must let them go for the benefit of our party and members. Enough is enough," they said.
They accused both leaders of pursuing their interests, excluding the needs of the members.
The UDA MCAs also claimed that the two leaders have been undermining and sidelining women, especially those who were nominated to the leadership space.
Nominated MCA Joyce Kamau stated the two leaders were also selfish when allocating opportunities to their colleagues and residents of Nairobi.
As a result, they call upon UDA's party leadership to install new leaders at the assembly who will truly represent the interests of the people.
"With the foregoing, we have only one solution under our Standing Orders and that is to remove both MCA Kiragu and Mugambi from office so that our beloved party, UDA can appoint new leaders who will restore sanity in the Assembly leadership," the MCAs said.
Responding to the allegations, Minority Leader Antony Kiragu said that he was aiming for a higher position in the upcoming UDA party grassroots elections.
He said he was aware of the signatures collected against them but termed the whole process as Jealousy
"I know some signatures have been appended but these are people who are jealous of my success and that I am aiming for a bigger position, UDA Nairobi chairman," Kiragu added.
The Minority leader also claimed that his UDA party counterparts had been bribed by his competitor to mull his ouster.
The Star has established that all UDA MCAS have been invited for a meeting next week on Monday at the party's headquarters.
Last year, UDA named Waithaka MCA Antony Kirangu as the Minority leader and was deputized by South B MCA Waithera Chege.
Umoja One MCA Mark Mugambi was named Minority Whip and Nominated MCA Joyce Muthoni as his deputy.
Mlango Kubwa ward rep Susan Makungu was nominated to seat at the Nairobi County Assembly Service Board.
The Nairobi County Assembly has 124 MCAs, of which 85 are elected members and 39 are nominated.
Azimio La Umoja Coalition is the majority with the highest number of MCAS at 68 while Kenya Kwanza has 53 MCAs. There are three Independent MCAs.
United Democratic Alliance has 35 elected MCAs just like the Orange Democratic Movement party.
Jubilee has seven, Wiper four, Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) one and three are Independents.
However, CCK was dissolved and joined UDA.
President William Ruto's UDA party and Raila Odinga's ODM each have 17 nominated MCAs.
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee has three nominated MCAs and Wiper has two.
Therefore in total, ODM and UDA have 52 MCAs each, Jubilee has 10 Wiper has six and CCK has one MCA.
