Police in Kisii South are investigating an incident where two girls, aged 6 and 5, were found murdered in a banana plantation in Nkura 3 village on Wednesday.

According to the police report, the girls were allegedly defiled, poisoned and killed by unknown persons before their bodies were dumped in the nearby plantation.

"A bottle of diazinon poison was found next to where they were thrown. It is believed that they were abducted and the vice was done to them by unknown people," the report said.

Juliet Ondimu, a mother of one of the minors, told the press that the children had gone to play, but failed to return before dusk, prompting a search by the family and community members.

Ondimu said that efforts to trace the children proved futile, forcing them to report the matter to the police, before the bodies of the minors were discovered.

“As we continued with the search, I received a report that the children had been killed, wrapped in gunny bags and dumped within the neighbourhood," she said.

The bodies of the deceased have been moved to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital (KTRH) pending post-mortem.

Meanwhile, Kisii Nominated Senator Essy Okenyuri has condemned the heinous act, saying there is no justification for violence against children.

"No parent should ever have to endure the pain of losing a child in such horrific circumstances," read part of her statement issued regarding the incident.

The Senator called upon the investigative agencies to treat the matter with the urgency it deserves and act accordingly.
