Man,21, stabs cousin to death in fight over land in Kericho

Police said the deceased was fatally stabbed when he uprooted sugarcane on the disputed land

A 21-year-old man was on Tuesday killed in a fight with his cousin in a dispute over land in Turkuito village, Belgut, in Kericho County.

Police said Nicholas Kipkoech was fatally stabbed when he uprooted sugarcane on the disputed land. His cousin, who is still at large, allegedly attacked and stabbed him with a sharp object in the neck, killing him.

The victim was rushed to Kericho County Referral Hospital but later succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment.

The assailant escaped the scene and efforts to trace him are ongoing, police said.

Elsewhere in Mutonga sublocation, Igoji, Meru county, the body of a man was found at a quarry in a suspected murder.

The body was found in Afro Bushero Quarry on Wednesday, police said. Police officers found the body of Dennis Bundi, 23, lying face down.

It had an injury on the forehead and the back.

No murder weapon was recovered at the scene.

A suspect who was last seen with the victim late at night was arrested to assist with the investigations, police said.

The body was moved to Kanyakine Subcounty Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem examination.

In Kegogi, Kisii county, a 17-year old boy was killed in a fight. The suspects are at large, police said.

He was a Form 4 student at Tambacha Secondary School.

The assailants, a father and son, used a stick to fatally hit the deceased in the head, police said.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to the injuries.

Police established that the victim had gone to defend a 65-year-old man who was being assaulted by the man and his son.

The assailants turned on the boy, with more people joining in the fight.

Police said the assailants pinned the teenager to the ground and started beating him with the stick. Upon getting information on the incident, a mob descended on the homestead of the two suspects and set their house ablaze.

They then proceeded to the farm where they destroyed crops.

Tension remained high, with police patrolling the village to stop further retaliation.

The body of the boy was moved to the mortuary pending postmortem and other procedures
