Former Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana now says that it is time for President William Ruto to embrace his role as the country's father figure.
Speaking on Thursday, Kibwana said during the campaigns Kenyans saw a father figure in Ruto, but that has not been the case.
He alleged that most of the things the President has said or done since he got into office have gone against what he promised.
The former governor insisted that it is time Ruto realises that he is the father of Kenya, and the country depends on him.
"Ruto, when he was campaigning we were seeing a father figure. Somebody who would take care of the business of everybody. Now when he says things that are diametrically in contradiction to his promises, then people say well, is this still our father figure? "He needs to realize that even at 57, he's a father figure of a country which positively depends on him," Kibwana said on Spice FM.
The former Makueni Governor said that all countries need father or mother figures to guide them.
He said former Presidents Jomo Kenyatta, Daniel Moi and Mwai Kibaki all provided father-figure status to the country in different styles.
"Countries also need a father or mother figure. Kenyatta at the beginning of independence was such a father figure. Moi before the coup came out as a father figure. I think Kibaki was consistently a father figure. Although he didn't talk much, you felt secure. Many decisions which are taken are decisions of a father figure."
Kibwana noted that former President Uhuru Kenyatta's style was different and he packaged his leadership as a friend of young people.
He said this is also a style that can be used.
"Uhuru was like the friend of the young people, like an uncle. When they go a little dancing and so on he can dance, he is happy and so on. That's another type of politics," Kibwana said.
During campaigns, Ruto promised to ease the cost of living for Kenyans by reducing taxes and fuel prices among others.
Taxes have increased and the cost of fuel and food remains high.
This, the Kenya Kwanza administration has greatly blamed on the state in which they found the country, when they took over power from the previous administration.
