Wandayi to KPLC staff: Take work seriously or quit

Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has fired a warning shot at lazy officers of the Kenya Power and Lighting Company and demanded immediate improvement in service delivery.

Wandayi expressed frustration over what he termed as continued suffering of Kenyans due to inefficiency by a section of employees of the utility firm.

"There should be no reason at all why Kenyans should continue to suffer under the hands of officers who do not want to serve," he said.

Wandayi emphasised that there should be no excuse for failure to promptly respond to customer complaints since people are the true employers of staff at KPLC.

"Take your work seriously and respond to complaints by wananchi swiftly and promptly, address the issues being raised on a timely basis," he said.

Speaking in Alego Usonga in Siaya sounty, the CS said he will no longer tolerate any form of excuse from the officers and "if you think that this work is too much for you, please give way."

He reminded them that KPLC is a company owned largely by the government, and if one is assigned responsibilities to address issues of electricity in the countryside, "please take your work seriously".

Wandayi claimed that some officials have developed a boss-like mentality subjecting Kenyans to unnecessary sufferings.

He said it was his duty and that of other officials in his ministry and other agencies to assist the President achieve his goals of addressing the needs of the people.

The CS added that come new year, he was going to undertake radical changes in the ministry to ensure effective service delivery to the people.

He further revealed that he would be making impromptu visits to KPLC offices across the country to monitor progress and hold officers accountable for their actions.

During his visit in Siaya, Wandayi toured the county KPLC office where he urged the staff to sustain timely and quality service delivery.

He was accompanied by area MP, Samson Atandi.
