Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Guo Haiyan has paid a courtesy visit to UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar at the party headquarters in Nairobi.

During the meeting, discussions focused on enhancing cooperation between the two countries.

Omar, while extending a warm welcome to Haiyan, emphasised that the cordial relations between Kenya and China would contribute to advancing the shared goals of improving the well-being of the people of the two nations.

The talks also focused on ways to further strengthen ties between the UDA and the CPC, as well as broader areas of bilateral cooperation between Kenya and China.

The UDA party aims to foster a strong, cordial relationship with the Communist Party of China (CPC) based on shared beliefs and mutual interests.

“There is a desire to redefine engagements and promote South-South cooperation, emphasising the importance of people-centered policies and collaborative efforts,” Omar said.

“The UDA party values the opportunity for high-level engagements, with President William Ruto's commitment to strengthening ties at the top level,” he added.

He noted that CPC can play a key role in this through expert exchanges and training for party cadres, facilitating knowledge-sharing and capacity-building.

Additionally, both parties committed to youth-focused initiatives. The UDA encouraged exchanges with young populations to learn from China's best practices, as well as to identify areas for improvement.

The collaboration aims to foster a deeper understanding of each other’s social structures and strengthen the friendship between Kenya and China.

In this spirit, the UDA invited youth exchanges to explore potential gaps that can be addressed through joint efforts, helping the next generation better appreciate each other's social and political landscapes.

Haiyan is the new Chinese Ambassador to Kenya, becoming the 18th envoy since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries 61 years ago.

Haiyan arrived in Nairobi on January 6, 2025, to assume her post, succeeding Zhou Pingjian, whose tenure ended in December 2024 after four years of service.

Haiyan previously served as China’s Ambassador to Guyana.
