A suspect fell off and died as he tried to escape from an irate mob after a failed robbery in Embakasi, Nairobi.
Police and witnesses said the suspect had climbed to the rooftop of a four-storey residential apartment and tried to steal Wi-Fi routers in Mradi area.
Some tenants at the building said they heard a commotion on the rooftop and raised alarm.
Apparently, the man had disabled three of the gadgets when he suddenly tried to escape by jumping off while fearing for his life.
Police and witnesses said he missed a step and fell off landing on the ground head-first.
"He died on the spot after suffering serious injuries," police said.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending identification and autopsy.
Such cases of stealing Wi-Fi routers have been rampant in the area, locals said.
Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said they are investigating the incident.
Meanwhile, detectives are investigating two cases of sudden deaths reported to them on Tuesday.
The first incident was reported in Shauri area, Soweto Njiru.
Police said the body of one Kevin Ochieng, 32, was found in a condemned house.
There are suspicions the victim was murdered and the body dumped at the site.
The other incident happened in Kasarani area where the body of James Nyagoti Onchoke aged 52 was found lying inside his bathroom where he seemed to have been washing clothes.
Police said they were informed by his wife she had been trying to reach him in vain.
Police moved the body to the mortuary pending autopsy and further probe.
