President William Ruto has claimed that there have been no extrajudicial killings since his ascent into power.
" I promised the country that there will be no extra judicial killings going forward," Ruto said.
"Six people yesterday lost their lives very unfortunately and they shouldn't have."
He further addressed the allegations of abductions made in the recent weeks.
"All the people they mentioned have since been found in police custody and those that were already processed were already released," he added.
"We should proceed within the foundational principles upon which our nation is founded namely constitutionalism, adherence to the rule of law ."
This was said during his address at the State House, Nairobi where Ruto declared he will not sign the contentious Finance Bill 2024.
"Listening keenly to the people of Kenya who have said loudly that they want nothing to do with this Finance Bill 2024, I concede and therefore I will not sign the 2024 Finance Bill and it shall subsequently be withdrawn," he said.
Once a Bill is before Parliament, it can't just lapse until it's withdrawn.
So the president is expected to return it to Parliament, with a memorandum on why he will not sign it into law.
After that, he is expected to ask the Majority Leader Kimani Ichungwa'h to formally withdraw it.
