Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has laughed off calls by a section of Kenya Kwanza legislators to form the position of Prime Minister and give it to opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Speaking on KTN News on Wednesday night, Kalonzo wondered what Raila would tell the people, should he choose to accept the position if is created.

He went on to say that those pushing the notion do not know Raila at all, adding that it is also unconstitutional to have such a position.

Kalonzo insisted that it will also dent the former Prime Minister’s political standing.

“Are they saying Raila Odinga to become Prime Minister? Then they don't know him. According to him, and according to us in the ticket with Martha Karua they won the elections, and now you want him to become Prime Minister? What will he be saying to the country?” Kalonzo posed.

Kalonzo said that he hopes Raila Odinga does not join the Kenya Kwanza government.

He noted that under the National Dialogue Committee (Nadco) they made Raila their principal of consultation with President William Ruto, but should he choose to work with Kenya Kwanza, he will lose that position.

Kalonzo said he will automatically assume the role, something he is ready to do to save the country.

“The only thing I hope is Raila does not join Ruto. If he does, he will lose the position of the principal. We had built within Nadco the principal of consultation between Raila and Ruto, this is one reason Raila cannot join Ruto.

“If he joins him, then I become the other principal. I am willing to become the principal to save the country,” he said.

This comes a few days after Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei called for the formation of the office of Prime Minister as stated in the Nadco report and to have Raila serve the country in that capacity.

He insisted that the former PM’s experience and leadership should not be allowed to waste away.

"We must now fully implement the NADCO Report by amending the Constitution 2010 to create the office of the Prime Minister (PM) and allow Baba Raila Odinga to serve Kenyans in that capacity,” Cherargei said.

The Senator noted that doing this is the only way Kenya can reward Raila for his role in championing democracy and the rule of law.

“We cannot allow such brilliant leadership and experience to go to waste the way the Africa Union did it.

“This is the only way we can appreciate and reward him for his fight for the rule of law and democracy in Kenya.”

Nadco was co-chaired by Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka from the Azimio Coalition and Kimani Ichung'wah from the Kenya Kwanza Coalition.

Of the five key recommendations made after weeks of deliberations and submissions from members of the public and professional bodies, Nadco recommended the formation of the establishment of the Office of the Leader of the Official Opposition with at least two deputies.
