Was a senior official briefly detained at a major foreign destination recently after he was purportedly found with wads of cash stashed in his bag? We are told it took a powerful phone call from Nairobi to the foreign authority to plead for the freedom of the man who has an over-publicised supposed humble upbringing. The man was quietly released, cut short his trip and flew back to Nairobi. The official has been the subject of endless grapevine chatter about his alleged sky-high lifestyle characterised by overnight riches. Now that a foreign authority has the guts to sop him and ask questions, why won’t authorities at home take note?

Has a senior politico been relieved after a state agency allegedly cleared his lieutenant? Well, the politician has told his allies that the move has set him free. He initially took to social media to defend his friend over alleged links to criminal activities the government is currently investigating. The politician’s critics had latched on some information the lieutenant had allegedly captured in an earlier engagement. It is alleged that at the county level, rivals had pushed for the politician to be probed over his supposed association with the man.

A state agency appears to have defied Parliament's directives to suspend the procurement of a multibillion-shilling system. Corridors of Power is informed that the agency that has purportedly been in the news for all the wrong reasons has allegedly implemented the project in secret without following procurement procedures as required by law. MPs had opposed the new system after finding no justification to abandon the current system, which also cost the country an arm and a leg. Moles tell this column that well-connected state officers are the major beneficiaries of the alleged lucrative tender. We are keeping an eye on the happenings.

We recently told you about the chairperson of a powerful state agency who is supposedly superintending big money companies. Well, observers hold that despite the pressure on the officer to mend ways with the partners, the run-ins keep turning for the worse. This week, the officer reportedly forced some of the partners to repeat a donations event after he arrived late. Having delayed, the partners allegedly engaged a senior officer from the agency to stand in. But when the boss arrived, they were allegedly forced to conduct the event afresh. Trucks which had left with the donations were recalled so that the big man could flag them off.
